The Cats Like Scotch blog has moved!

Please visit http://www.catslikescotch.com/wp/blog for recent posts. Thank you!

[You will not be automatically redirected, in part, well entirely, due to the fact that I have no idea how to do that... If you know how to do that, mind giving me a hand?]

It's Only See You Later...

The Cats Like Scotch blog will be quiet for the rest of the week as we prepare for the redesigned website to be launched. At that point in time, the entire blog will be moved over to CatsLikeScotch.com.

In the meantime, please feel free to peruse my Flickr stream. It's also in the process of updating and reorganizing, so it might be a bit of a mess, but there is a lot to browse through in anycase.

Thank you for baring with me through all of this construction!

For My Parents

To a mother who, by example, always taught me to be self-reliant and strong, to have courage but be aware, and to help those less fortunate. And that in most cases, at a concert, it is totally appropriate to use the men's room when the women's line wraps around the building, so long as you move quickly, keep your head down, and never touch anything. Happy birthday, Mom!

To a father who instilled a strong sense of independence, consistently encourages any dream I've ever had, and has always been honest with me. And who gave me my first (and second and third and fourth...) camera and would always get me to a one hour photo store as soon as I finished a roll of film when I was a kid. Happy birthday, Dad!

My wonderful and wonderfully strange parents.

Thank you both for being exactly who you are and only ever expecting the same from me.

New Directions & Such

I've been writing a lot over the past few weeks about the blog taking a new direction as my website gets a complete haul over, but haven't shared much insight as to what that new direction will be. Today, I thought I would share those plans.

For two years now, I've kept Cats Like Scotch as an ongoing outlet of the photographs I had been taking. And for two years, the photographs have been posted without any visible common thread to any of you. As I have learned more about photography, people, and myself, I've been able to start focusing in on what it is I'd actually like to do in my visual pursuit. Part of that will be presenting my photographs in collections, or projects, on my website rather than just in an admittedly random assortment as is their current state. In doing so, I feel as though I'm really exposing a great deal about who I am and the things I have experienced. To show you a clip is easy: I can tell you it's a single photograph I enjoy without further explanation but to show you an entire series, well, I have to give you substance, something of myself.

The second part of my plan will be a more focused blog, in some ways, anyhow. It's likely that I will continue to share photographs I take that have no place in a series and would also like to keep you in the loop on the things I'm working on by offering sneak peeks. But, what I'd really like this blog to become is a place for inspiration. Not by myself, but by showcasing the things and people that inspire me. We are all creative in our own way and we are all at risk of falling victim to creative blocks or become stale by continuously drawing our inspiration from one source. One way that I intend to do this is by featuring interviews with different artists regarding their creative process. This feature will begin very soon and will reoccur weekly.

So that's that...

Luca Brasi Sleeps With the Fishes

I apologize for falling off the face of the planet for a few weeks. The holidays + mass reorganization + a few projects I've got in the works were enough to push me into seclusion but then on top of all that, I became extremely ill the weekend of New Year's Eve. Unable to move-sleep for forty-eight hours straight-head pounding kind of ill. What a way to bring in the new year.

Because it is now mid-January (yikes!), I've decided to scrap the twelve photos series that I began in December. I hate to leave something unfinished, but not as much as I hate to be a blogger still posting about last year well into this one. My compromise--in the next day or two, I'll put together a little photographic summary of the last year and we'll call it a day.

In other news....

My first published photograph appears in this month's VegNews! It's just a small photo on the table of contents page but it's still kind of exciting to see a photo credit with my name, especially in a magazine that I pick up fairly regularly.

Short post, I know, but I've got somethings planned in the next week to make it up.

Just a little news...

I've been working with Crooked Creek Studios on a project showcasing their space and equipment. Their website is now featuring many of the photos I took; please swing by and check them out! :)

Neat-o

Good morning! Or afternoon, depending on where you are. I'm spending the holiday in California with family so it's still morning here. There won't be any new shots today to gander but come back in a few days and I'll have posted new images from my trip out west. In the meantime, I wanted to share these lovely blogs that have featured work by me.

Creative Artists Blog has featured this shot, which is one of my all time favorites:

and Butterfly in the Attic featured another downtown shot:

That is all, for today.
